Many new businsesses have been started after The DIY School courses.

Courses at The DIY School have enabled many individuals to achieve the goal of becoming their own boss. Dispite economic down turn, the Domestic Plastering, Tiling, Decorating and General Handyman markets remain buoyant enabling individuals to quickly build up a base of customers from whom repeat business is won as are follow on customer recommendations.

Many of our customers have become Plasters, Tilers, Decorators and Handyman and Women.

Your First Customers

A succesful approach is to identify potential first customers at home or amongst family and friends. Making them aware that you are starting out so you will need to offer them a favourable rate. Do a good job there and your business will start to come in via word of mouth.

Always leaflet the 10 houses either side and 20 house in front of the house in which you are working making sure they know where you are working. Often you will find a chain of recomendations will keep you in one road for many jobs.

Have a sign written van. People will often stop you in the most unusual places to ask for your card. Make sure you have some cards printed.

Turn up on time, don't over charge, do a good job, don't take on too much and you will remain busy.

Local Handyman Business

A growing area of business opportunity is the multi skilled Handyman. Customers of The DIY School who have attended a full range of our courses find that a trusted Handyman can find themselves working for several days in a single household as the quality of their work encourages the homeowner to keep adding to the list of "odd jobs" that they pay to have done. Often our handymen find themselves working in up to 5 different houses in one road on the strength of word of mouth and a well sign-written van or A-Board.

Why not look at the Handyman Training Package that includes 7 courses, internet website, email addresses, web address, 1st Page Google Advertising in your area for 3 months and 500 advertising flyers.
