Spot Board Stand

On The DIY School Plastering Courses we use plastering boards that we have made ourselves and this is fine for the sort of amounts you will use as an early DIYer.

At about 24” square they comprise of a 1” sheet of composite wood that has been heavily PVA’d prior to use. This will prevent early penetration of water into the surface. The board sits on a work bench.

For the professional plasterer or DIYer tackling larger jobs as their experience grows so the need for a bigger board will grow as a stand that is easier to fold away and transport. Many purpose made boards and stands are available.

Always keep your spot board clean during and after a job. Both surfaces and sides should remain free of dry or drying plaster.

Before putting each mix of plaster on the board ensure that it is moistened to prevent the plaster at the bottom of the mix drying out.

If after time the board starts to break up then replace it to ensure that your skim does not turn in to wood chip!
