Wallpaper Paste / Size

Wallpaper paste comes in two main varieties. Water Based Paste and Vinyl Adhsive.

Water Based wallpaper paste that you will see in most DIY stores will hang the majority of wallpapers that require paste. The weight of paper determines the thickness or strength to which the paste should be mixed. The more water the weaker the paste and lighter the paper it will hang. Each wallpaper paste packet will tell you the ratio of paste to water for different jobs.

Water based wallpaper paste at it’s most dilute is also used to size a wall or “seal” it prior to papering.

Vinyl adhesive would be used only when hanging a border around a room on to vinyl wallpaper. Water based Wallpaper paste will not work in this scenario. Vinyl adhesive should also be used when overlapping vinyl wallpaper in to an internal or external corner for example.
