Tile Scribe, Breaker & File

For straight cuts, when used in conjunction with a small set square, the tile scribe is used to create a weak line by way of a score in the tiles' glaze along which it will break cleanly.

The break is completed using the tile breakers.

By placing the tips of the wings on either side of the score line and squeezing, the tile will break cleanly.

Often, the break will need to be smoothed off with the tile file.

The tile file can also be used to file back a cut tile edge. This is done when creating a unique pattern with hand cut tiles. By filing back they can be laid together with the tiling producing a gap for grout
